Erin Nusnbaum, a nearly 20-year Fulton County Schools veteran who started as a classroom teacher, will lead the Office of the Superintendent as its new executive director.

The Fulton County Board of Education approved the promotion at its Thursday, Sept. 17 meeting at the South Learning Center, according to the district's board bulletin. The role places Nusnbaum at the center of district-wide coordination under Superintendent Mike Looney, who has led FCS since June 2019.

The promotion is an internal move.

Nusnbaum most recently served as Director of Policy Management in the superintendent's office, where she coordinated projects across divisions and helped build channels for families, employees and community members to weigh in on district decisions. The district's official announcement, published Monday, Sept. 21, described her as drawn to collaborative work that translates complex challenges into workable systems.

No outside candidates were mentioned in district materials. The specific schools where Nusnbaum taught or held earlier leadership roles were not identified in the announcement.

She holds a Master of Management Studies in Public Education Management from the Yale School of Management, an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University and a Master of Education in Elementary Education from the University of Florida.

Nusnbaum is also an FCS parent. Her children, Ezra and Ella, are a sixth grader and a second grader in the district, according to the announcement.

Her appointment was one of two personnel actions the board approved Sept. 17. Jessica Lundy was named principal of Haynes Bridge Middle School at the same meeting. The board also unanimously appointed District 6 member Kimberly Dove as the new vice president, following the resignation of District 3 Board Vice President Katie Gregory.
