A 59-year-old Alpharetta man drove his Nissan Rogue into the front of a bottle shop on Houze Road on the evening of Tuesday, July 14, 2026, then told Roswell police he "had too much to drink," according to a report published by Appen Media.

Officers arrived after 7 p.m. to find the SUV embedded in the store's front doors and windows. Bystanders told police the car had reversed in the parking lot, struck a light pole, then accelerated rapidly into the building's facade.

The driver was in the bathroom when officers entered.

Police said the man had droopy eyelids, a staggering walk and the odor of alcohol on his breath. He told officers he had consumed alcohol early that morning but could not remember how much. He also blamed the crash on a vehicle malfunction.

The man consented to field sobriety evaluations but struggled to balance and follow instructions, according to Roswell police. A breathalyzer test registered a breath alcohol concentration of 0.277, more than three times Georgia's legal limit of 0.08 for adult drivers.

Officers arrested the driver on charges of driving under the influence and reckless driving. They transported him to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision, drew his blood for state-administered chemical testing and booked him into Cherokee County Jail.

The suspect's name has not been released. No information was available on the extent of damage to the business or whether it has reopened. Blood-test results, which could differ from the preliminary breathalyzer reading, are pending.

Charges remain active, and no court date has been announced.
