Kevn Kinney, the Milwaukee-born frontman who founded Atlanta rock band Drivin N Cryin in 1985, will bring a solo acoustic set to The Block Theater in Roswell on Tuesday, August 4, at 7:30 p.m.

General admission tickets are $35. A VIP Experience package costs $70 and includes premium reserved seating near the stage plus access to an Eats Buffet featuring shrimp pasta, fried chicken, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, and bread pudding. The concert puts local audiences close to a performer whose band has released nine studio albums on labels including Island and Geffen Records. The event listing on Roswell365 bills it as a "rare solo acoustic performance," and the intimate setting at You42 Studios, 11000 Alpharetta Hwy., suits a songwriter who has toggled between electric rock and stripped-down folk since releasing his first solo record, MacDougal Blues, on Island Records in 1990. Kinney moved to Atlanta from Milwaukee in 1982, working construction before forming Drivin N Cryin with bassist Tim Nielsen. The band debuted at Atlanta's 688 Club in October 1985 and went on to earn a gold certification with 1991's Fly Me Courageous, according to music database records. Their 1989 album Mystery Road was named one of Paste Magazine's 50 best Southern rock albums of all time, and country star Darius Rucker later covered the Kinney-penned "Straight to Hell" on his album When Was the Last Time.

Kinney's work has earned him inductions into both the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, with Drivin N Cryin in 2015, and the Wisconsin Area Music Industry Hall of Fame. Between band tours, he helps host the annual Christmas Jam in Asheville, North Carolina, alongside Warren Haynes.
