River Eves Elementary School scored 96.35 out of 100 in the 2027 U.S. News Best Elementary Schools rankings, placing it No. 47 among 1,260 ranked Georgia elementary schools and making it the highest-rated school in Roswell.
The STEM-focused school on Eves Road posted strong test numbers. According to the school's U.S. News profile, 77% of River Eves students scored at or above the proficient level in math and 70% in reading. Both figures topped the Fulton County district averages of 52% in math and 51% in reading, and the statewide averages of 41% and 39%.
The rankings, which cover nearly 47,000 elementary schools nationally, weigh four factors equally at 25% each: math proficiency, math performance, reading proficiency and reading performance. Half the formula measures raw scores. The other half factors in socioeconomic demographics. U.S. News ranks only public schools because they take common statewide assessments that allow comparison.
The 2027 rankings draw on state assessment data from the 2023-2024 school year.
River Eves serves 495 students in pre-K through fifth grade with a 14-to-1 student-teacher ratio, according to U.S. News. The school, established in August 1996, uses a Project-Based Learning model and is one of the few elementary schools in the district offering Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE), according to the school's website. Principal Susan Gowin described the 2026-2027 school year theme as focused on STEM, with the school pursuing Georgia State STEM Recertification, according to a message posted on the school's site.
Fulton County Schools (FCS) has posted broader gains that provide context for River Eves' performance. District math proficiency on the 2025-2026 Georgia Milestones assessments rose to 57.5%, a 2.5 percentage-point increase over the prior year, according to a district announcement. Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney said the results "reflect the hard work of our teachers, school leaders, support staff, students and families."
"While we are proud of the progress our students have made, we also know there is more work to do to ensure every student reaches their full potential," Dr. Looney said.
No statement from the school or district specifically addressing the U.S. News ranking was available.
