Roswell's Riverside Park closed February 1 for a major bond-funded renovation and won't reopen until summer 2027, according to the city. But residents looking to get on the Chattahoochee River this summer still have options at two parks nearby.

The Nantahala Outdoor Center operates as the City of Roswell's exclusive on-site river outfitter at Azalea Park, 203 Azalea Drive, and Don White Memorial Park, 925B Riverside Road. NOC, the same company that runs whitewater operations in the North Carolina mountains, rents kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, rafts, tubes, bikes, and e-bikes at both locations.

The river here runs through serene flatwater and gentle Class I+ whitewater, suitable for beginners through experienced paddlers. Hourly and half-day rentals are available.

One bonus: the Chattahoochee stays cold all summer because of dam releases upstream at Buford Dam, making it refreshing even on the hottest days, according to the Roswell Pulse summer activities guide.

What you can do

Canoe trips run as out-and-back paddles from Azalea Park or as shuttle downriver trips of 1.5 or 3 miles from Garrard's Landing back to the park. All canoe rentals include paddles, a personal flotation device, and shuttle service. Rafting is open to children ages 5 and up. Tubing trips follow the classic "Shoot the Hooch" tradition.

For those who prefer dry land, NOC rents bikes and e-bikes for more than three miles of improved trails along the river corridor. The outpost store at Azalea Park sells snacks, sunblock, and other supplies.

Youth camps and classes

NOC runs a four-day Chattahoochee River Explorer day camp for kids ages 9 to 12 in late June and early July, where campers learn paddling skills across multiple watercraft. Beginner paddling classes are also available, covering 2.5 miles on the river with NOC guides.

Parking and access

During the Riverside Park renovation, alternate parking is available at Ace Sand Park and Don White Memorial Park. The Riverside Sounds concert series, traditionally held at Riverside Park, is on hold until further notice.
