A fire damaged 12 units at Aspen Pointe Apartments on Tuesday, Sept. 1, forcing about 30 Roswell residents from their homes and collapsing part of the building's roof.

Roswell Fire Department crews received the call at 3:54 p.m. and arrived in under five minutes, according to details Capt. Chad Miller, the department's emergency management captain and public information officer, provided to Fox 5 Atlanta. Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames pouring from the building.

The complex sits on Gran Crique Drive off Highway 19, near State Route 400, according to 11Alive. Multiple agencies responded to the scene.

Crews immediately pulled workers and residents from the structure after finding them trapped inside and unaware of the danger, Miller said. Firefighters deployed ladder trucks to battle the blaze from above as thick black smoke rose into the air.

Paramedics treated three people. A resident was treated for minor foot burns. An officer was sent to a hospital for smoke inhalation, according to the Fox 5 report, though the officer's agency was not identified. A firefighter was treated for a minor dog bite and returned to duty.

The Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency responded and coordinated assistance from the American Red Cross for the displaced families. The agency helps connect residents with temporary housing and other support after large-scale emergencies.

Investigators have not determined what caused the fire. The department has not released a damage cost estimate for the 12 affected units.

Neither the Roswell Fire Department nor the city posted a public statement about the fire on social media as of Wednesday, Sept. 2.
