Roswell High School senior Katelyn Borland has verbally committed to swim at the University of Tampa, with plans to join the Spartans in fall 2027.
The distance freestyle specialist announced her decision on SwimCloud, SwimSwam reported. Borland has competed on Roswell’s varsity team since her freshman year and trains year-round with Chattahoochee Gold Swim Club.
Her recent results include a bronze medal in the 500-yard freestyle at the 2026 GHSA Class 5A state championships. She finished in 4:57.95 and also placed fourth in the 200 freestyle final in 1:53.14, according to state-meet coverage.
At the Southeastern Meet of Champions in March, Borland won the 1000 freestyle in 10:03.86 and the 1650 freestyle in 17:00.20, according to the meet results.
Those performances suggest she could contribute to Tampa’s distance lineup. Her 1650 time was faster than the bronze-medal performance of 17:03.71 at the 2026 Sunshine State Conference championships.
Her listed bests in the 500, 1000 and 1650 also fall below the NCAA’s published 2026–27 Division II B consideration standards. Those standards do not guarantee an invitation to the national championships, and qualification requirements for her freshman season may differ.
Borland plans to join a program coming off a strong season. Tampa’s women won their second consecutive Sunshine State Conference championship in February and finished as national runners-up at the NCAA Division II championships in March. The Spartans’ men won the national title, according to the conference’s championship report.
