Roswell High offensive lineman Miller Westerfield chose Georgia over a more generous financial offer from LSU, committing to the Bulldogs' 2027 recruiting class on Friday, July 10.

Westerfield, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound senior rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports Composite (No. 41 offensive tackle, No. 432 overall nationally), said the decision came down to family.

"I can't be nine hours away," Westerfield told DawgNation, recalling the moment he made up his mind. "I can't do that to my family. It has gotta be Georgia."

The commitment came after a family mountain retreat in North Carolina, where Westerfield stepped away from Wi-Fi and cell service to think it over with his mother present. He grew up in a self-described "red-and-black family," and said proximity to his Roswell roots outweighed the money.

The decision wasn't about dollars.

Georgia views Westerfield as a guard-tackle combo big enough to play either spot in the SEC. LSU, by contrast, projected him across all five offensive line positions, including center. Tennessee was also among his finalists.

He becomes the 18th commitment in Georgia's 2027 class and the sixth offensive lineman, according to Yahoo Sports. Offensive linemen now make up one-third of the Bulldogs' incoming class.

Second Hornet headed to Athens

Westerfield isn't the only Roswell player joining UGA. Running back Nick Peal committed to Georgia on scholarship in April 2026, with head coach Jonathan Thompson helping connect Peal to the Bulldogs' staff, according to the Augusta Chronicle. Thompson's program went 12-2 in 2025, reaching the GHSA Class 5A state semifinals before falling to Thomas County Central on Thursday, December 11.

The Hornets' only regular-season loss that year was a 65-21 defeat to No. 1-ranked Buford on Friday, September 5, 2025. Roswell then reeled off 10 straight wins.

Bigger stage ahead in 2026

Roswell moves up to Class 6A for the 2026-27 school year under the GHSA's new classification system, according to Georgia High School Football Daily. The old 6A becomes 7A, making Roswell's new classification the state's second-highest tier. The Hornets' enrollment of 1,983 students placed them there.

With Westerfield anchoring the offensive line for one more season under Thompson, Roswell enters Class 6A competition with two future Bulldogs on the roster.
