Mosquito tests at two Roswell parks came back negative for West Nile virus, the city announced Wednesday, Sept. 9. Roswell Area Park and Garrard Landing Park were sprayed Sept. 1 and Sept. 2 after traps tested positive.

The City of Roswell said on X that the Fulton County Board of Health (FCBOH) will continue monitoring and testing at both parks despite the clear results.

Both parks remain open.

Mosquito traps at the two parks had tested positive for West Nile on Sept. 1. A Fulton County contractor sprayed within a quarter-mile radius of the traps on Sept. 1 and Sept. 2, starting at 9 p.m. each evening and lasting about an hour. Recreation programs continued as planned during the treatment.

Appen Media reported at the time that spray trucks traveled about 15 mph through the treatment zones at dusk to avoid disrupting pollinators. The city described the treatment as safe for people and pets.

The Roswell detections were part of a broader West Nile season across metro Atlanta. Fulton County's first positive mosquito trap of 2026 turned up in Atlanta's Grant Park area in July. Atlanta News First reported that positive tests had also been recorded in South Fulton and Atlanta, and that DeKalb County had four areas with positive results as of early September.

No confirmed human West Nile cases had been reported in Fulton County as of early September, according to Roswell Pulse. Georgia statewide had two confirmed cases, in Muscogee and Chatham counties. The CDC has characterized 2026 as the earliest and most active West Nile season nationally since 2004.

Health officials recommend residents use EPA-registered insect repellent outdoors, wear long sleeves and pants at dawn and dusk, empty standing water from flowerpots, buckets, birdbaths and gutters, and check that window and door screens are in good condition.

The FCBOH has not announced a date for the next round of testing at either park.
