Roswell Police officers in an unmarked patrol car detained two people outside a Holcomb Bridge Road restaurant after midnight on Thursday, July 9, after recognizing them as individuals previously banned from the property.

The detention escalated when the woman attempted to flee in handcuffs, slammed her head on cobblestone pavement, and her pit bull charged at officers, according to an incident report published by Appen Media reporter Hannah Yahne.

Officers in the unmarked car spotted the man and woman leaving the restaurant and stopped them in the parking lot. The man acknowledged he was not allowed on the premises. The woman disputed that her ban was still in effect. An employee inside confirmed both had been issued criminal trespass notices and wanted them removed.

Both were handcuffed. The man told officers he had marijuana in his backpack. The woman said she had a methamphetamine pipe in hers.

The woman then jumped up from a seated position, said she intended to harm herself, and tried to run while cuffed. She fell and began forcefully slamming her head on the cobblestone. Officers restrained her and moved her to a safe position.

While they did so, her pit bull charged aggressively. Officers drew their weapons.

A separate officer then learned from the business owner that the woman's trespass ban had been lifted. She was released from custody. Emergency medical services evaluated her for a head laceration, but she declined further treatment. A search of her backpack turned up five drug-related items. She was issued a warning at the scene.

The man's backpack contained 6.5 grams of marijuana. He was cited and transported to the Cherokee County jail.
