Hal's "The Steakhouse," the Buckhead dining institution open since 1989, plans to open its first suburban restaurant at 4 Elizabeth Way in downtown Roswell in spring 2027.

The new location will sit at the corner of Canton Street and Elizabeth Way in the former Go With The Flow building, a few doors from Little Alley Steak. It will feature a rooftop patio and valet parking, according to Roswell Pulse, which reported the expansion Aug. 27.

The rooftop patio would be the first of its kind on Canton Street, where nearly every existing outdoor dining space sits at ground level.

Owner Sammy Jimenez took over operations after founder Hal Nowak retired June 4 following more than three decades at the restaurant. Jimenez told Atlanta Magazine Aug. 13 that each new location will carry Nowak's legacy forward.

"Mr. Hal and I started working together 30 years ago," Jimenez said. "I follow all his teachings, and I will never change that."

The Roswell restaurant will be the fourth Hal's location overall. The original remains on Old Ivy Road in Buckhead. A Nashville outpost opened in 2024, and a Midtown Atlanta location inside the historic Patterson House at Spring Quarter is also expected to open in spring 2027. Atlanta Magazine reported the Roswell location is expected to follow the Midtown opening, though Roswell Pulse describes both as spring 2027 openings.

Hal's is known for New Orleans-style cuisine, martinis, live music, and a dining room styled with dark woods and green accents. Jimenez told Atlanta Magazine the same menu, drinks and décor will carry over to every location, with each restaurant featuring a portrait of Nowak behind the piano.

Jimenez characterized valet parking as a deal-maker for diners traveling to the Roswell location, according to Roswell Pulse. On-street parking on Elizabeth Way costs $2 per hour under the city's paid parking pilot program, which runs through Dec. 31, 2026.

The 394-space downtown parking deck at 1056 Alpharetta Street, which opened May 4, is also nearby.

Canton Street's south end, where Hal's will land, is the densest stretch of the dining district. Most kitchens there seat 40 to 90 people.

Spring 2027 is the only timeline stated. No groundbreaking date, permit hearing or construction milestone has been announced.
