Roswell picked up two national awards for community engagement at a conference in Denver on Friday, Sept. 11.
The City-County Communications & Marketing Association (3CMA) recognized Roswell at its annual conference, which ran Wednesday, Sept. 9, through Friday, Sept. 11. The city won a Savvy Award for Best Campaign Outreach to a Diverse Audience or Multicultural Campaign for its Roswell Roots: A Festival of Black History and Culture. It also earned a Silver Circle Award for Best One-Time Event for Tapestry of Generations: Roswell's America250 Celebration, the city announced Friday, Sept. 11.
The Savvy Award is the top honor in the 3CMA program, which also includes Silver Circle and Award of Excellence tiers. The association, founded in 1988, is a national network of local government communications professionals.
Matt Holmes, Roswell's director of communications and engagement, credited the wins to teamwork across city departments.
"These two awards are proof of the diligence and collaboration that are happening across department lines here at City Hall," Holmes said. "A lot of credit goes to our partners in Recreation, Parks, Historic and Cultural Affairs, who organized and planned so many of these great community events."
The Roswell Roots honor spotlighted the festival's 25th anniversary celebration, a month-long series of events during Black History Month in February. Founded in 2001 by the Groveway Community and the Roswell Roots Committee, Roswell Roots has grown into one of the Southeast's most significant and long-running celebrations of Black history and culture.
The America250 award recognized a yearlong celebration running January through December 2026, organized around three pillars: Life, Liberty and Happiness. The program included historic reenactments, public art installations, live performances and family festivals. Signature events included a Community Quilt Project unveiled on March 21, the musical "Quilters" at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center in August, and the July 4 celebration.
