Jonathan Cannon fanned eight batters but took the loss Sunday, Aug. 16, as the Charlotte Knights fell 7-5 to the league-leading Rochester Red Wings at Frontier Field in Rochester, N.Y.

The Centennial High School alum allowed five runs on seven hits with three walks across five innings, according to South Side Sox's minor league recap. It was Cannon's second start against Rochester in a week. The 6-foot-6 right-hander faced the Red Wings on Tuesday, Aug. 11, allowing six runs in five innings during an 8-6 Charlotte win.

Charlotte built a 3-0 lead through the first two innings. Rikuu Nishida walked, Junior Perez and Edgar Quero hit back-to-back doubles in the first, and Riley Unroe added a solo homer in the second. But Rochester answered with three runs off Cannon in the bottom of the second and took the lead with two more in the third to go up 5-3.

The Red Wings extended their lead with a solo homer off reliever Jaden Woods in the sixth and another run off Garrett Schoenle in the eighth to make it 7-4. Charlotte scored once in the ninth but couldn't complete the comeback. The Knights dropped to 64-56 on the season.

Quero led the Charlotte offense, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and a double.

Jason Delay (Northview High School) provided a bright spot in a losing effort for the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox. The catcher scored a run in the seventh inning and launched a solo home run in the ninth, but Worcester fell 9-6 to the Buffalo Bisons at Polar Park in Worcester, Mass., according to the Bisons' game recap.

Mark McLaughlin (Northview High School) pitched for the Double-A Birmingham Barons in a 5-3 loss to the Columbus Clingstones. The Barons fell to 46-68.

Michael Trautwein (Northview High School) caught for the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts in a rough 15-3 loss to the Montgomery Biscuits. Montgomery scored 13 runs over the first four innings in the blowout at DABOS Park in Montgomery, Ala.

Graham Pauley (Milton High School) was scheduled to play for the Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp against the Syracuse Mets. A result for that game was not available at press time.

Cannon will look to bounce back after surrendering five-plus runs in consecutive starts against the International League's top team.
