Families with young children can mark Friday, Oct. 23, for a free indoor Halloween Fun House at East Roswell Park Recreation Center, 9000 Fouts Rd.
The event, open to children age 8 and under, runs from 4:30 to 7 p.m. No reservation is required.
The entire rec center will be converted into an Halloween festival, according to Atlanta on the Cheap. Activities include face painting, magic shows, arts and crafts, inflatables, games and safe trick-or-treating. Family-friendly costumes are encouraged.
Children must be accompanied by an adult. Drop-offs are not permitted.
The event listing does not name an organizer, though East Roswell Park Recreation Center is part of the city's Recreation and Parks Department.
Mimms Museum earns regional recognition
Roswell's Mimms Museum of Technology and Art picked up an honorable mention from the Southeastern Museums Conference for its permanent Apple exhibit, as we reported Wednesday, Oct. 7.
The award, presented during a Sept. 30 luncheon in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, recognized the museum's "iNSPIRE: 50 Years of Innovation from Apple" exhibit in the category for exhibits with budgets exceeding $1 million. A record number of entries were submitted this year, according to Appen Media. The conference judges exhibits on professional standards, educational value and overall design.
The permanent exhibit, which opened April 1 at 5000 Commerce Parkway, features more than 2,000 artifacts tracing Apple's five-decade history. Visitors can see early Apple computers, debut versions of the iPod, iPhone and iPad, along with prototypes and installations inspired by the company's most recognizable products and marketing campaigns.
Lonnie Mimms, the museum's founder and board chair, said the exhibit was assembled to tell "a cohesive story about how innovation, design and creativity shape the way we experience the world."
The nonprofit museum describes its collection as one of the world's largest of digital-era artifacts and technology-inspired artwork.
Upcoming
The Mimms Museum hosts its next Night Mode evening on Friday, Oct. 16, staying open from 5 to 9 p.m. at 5000 Commerce Parkway.
