Hal's "The Steakhouse," the Buckhead dining institution known for prime steaks and nightly live music, plans to open a location in downtown Roswell by mid-2028.

The expansion was confirmed in an Aug. 11 press release from Portman Holdings about a broader Hal's growth push, as reported by Urbanize Atlanta. The Roswell outpost will be Hal's fourth overall. Owner Sammy Jimenez is overseeing the expansion, which also includes a Midtown Atlanta location at the Spring Quarter development.

No specific street address for the Roswell restaurant has been publicly confirmed. Multiple sources, including Axios Atlanta and Rough Draft Atlanta, describe the planned site only as "downtown Roswell." No city of Roswell building permits or zoning filings for a Hal's location appeared in public records as of Aug. 15.

What Hal's brings

Founded in 1989 by Hal Nowak on Old Ivy Road in Buckhead, the restaurant built its reputation on a New Orleans-inspired menu, a career waitstaff that has been together more than 20 years and live music every night. A second location opened in Nashville in 2024.

"Opening a second restaurant in Atlanta was a significant decision, and we took great care in finding the right home for our next chapter," Jimenez said of the Midtown site in the Aug. 11 announcement that also confirmed the Roswell plans.

The Midtown location will occupy the historic 24,000-square-foot Patterson House at 1020 Spring St. NW, a Tudor-style building designed by architect Philip T. Shutze in 1928. That location will seat about 400 patrons and include a cafe and a second-floor fine art gallery, according to Bisnow. It is expected to open in early 2028.

What's next for Roswell

Details on the Roswell location's size, menu concept and exact address remain unannounced. The mid-2028 target puts it a few months behind the Midtown opening.

Downtown Roswell already draws diners to its restaurant scene, though whether Hal's will land on Canton Street or elsewhere in the district is unclear. A fine-dining steakhouse would be a new addition to the area's mix of upscale and casual spots.
