Runners and walkers will lace up at Sweet Apple Elementary on Saturday, Aug. 22 for the second annual Jeremy Labonte Memorial 5K, honoring the Roswell police officer who was shot and killed in the line of duty on Feb. 7, 2025.

The race begins at 8 a.m. Every participant receives a free T-shirt and a special edition race coin, according to Fulton Neighbor. A virtual 5K option and a T-shirt-only registration are also available through the RunSignup event page.

Officer Labonte was 24 years old when he was killed while responding to a report of a suspicious person at a shopping complex on Market Boulevard. His public funeral on Feb. 12, 2025 drew an outpouring of support from across Roswell and beyond.

The Roswell Police Department promoted the race on X on July 15, inviting the community to join them for the run. The first 5K was held in August 2025, roughly a week after what would have been Labonte's 25th birthday.

The event page describes the race as a community tribute to Labonte and a show of support for officers who serve. Organizers said the run honors Labonte's bravery and dedication to protecting Roswell residents.

The community has rallied around Labonte's memory in multiple ways since his death. The Georgia 400 and Holcomb Bridge Road interchange was officially renamed the Officer Jeremy Labonte Memorial Interchange in August 2025 after a bipartisan state legislative resolution. His name was unveiled on the Georgia Law Enforcement Memorial in May 2026, and a Roswell Police delegation traveled with the Labonte family to Washington, D.C. for the national memorial ceremony.

At the interchange dedication on Aug. 25, 2025, Labonte's widow, Alyssa Labonte, told Fox 5 Atlanta: "It makes me really proud to know that his name and his sacrifice won't be forgotten. And he would hate the spotlight, but everyone deserves to know what kind of man he was in and out of the uniform."

Registration is open now at RunSignup, which also accepts donations through the race page.
