A Roswell couple died Saturday, Oct. 3, after their car hydroplaned on Interstate 85 in Franklin County and struck a tree, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).
Khasan S. Umarov, 63, and Khalisa Umarovna Umarova, 61, were traveling north on I-85 in a white 2020 Toyota Camry when the vehicle hydroplaned in the right lane near mile marker 167, as first reported by WNEG Radio and sister station 92.1 WLHR.
"The Camry hydroplaned, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, exiting the east shoulder of the roadway," GSP Cpl. Jesse Lamb said. "After leaving the roadway, the Camry struck a tree with its front end."
Both were transported to St. Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital, where they died from their injuries. The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 12:47 p.m. Troopers from GSP Post 52 in Hartwell responded.
Lamb said no driver impairment was suspected.
