The Roswell Police Department is recruiting pre-certified officers and has scheduled two physical agility tests for Aug. 26 and Sept. 24, offering lateral hires a fast track into the department with starting pay up to $84,258.
The department announced the testing dates on X on Tuesday, Aug. 18. The openings are available to Georgia-certified officers as well as out-of-state, federal and military law enforcement candidates, according to the department's Facebook posting.
Starting salary ranges from $68,861 to $84,258, with credit for prior law enforcement experience, military service and college degrees. Certified hires receive a $4,000 signing bonus paid upfront.
The benefits package includes a take-home car program, tuition reimbursement, a 16% retirement match and a department-owned indoor firearms range. RPD also offers a free jiu-jitsu program, load-bearing outer-carrier ballistic vests and more than 10 specialized units including Criminal Investigations, SWAT, K9 and federal task force positions. The department described itself as "a progressive department in a supportive community" in its recruitment post.
The hiring push comes as RPD settles into its new Public Safety Headquarters at 1080 Holcomb Bridge Road, which opened June 25. The facility, funded by the voter-approved $52 million Public Safety Bond, houses both the police and fire departments under one roof for the first time.
Budget documents back the staffing effort. The city's FY2026 mid-year budget amendment, approved July 13, included $263,000 for the police department to maintain sworn staffing and support ADA improvements, according to city records. RPD has not disclosed how many sworn positions remain unfilled or how many pre-certified officers it aims to hire.
Minimum requirements include being at least 21 years old, holding a valid driver's license and having a high school diploma or GED.
