Roswell middle blocker Madison Middleton has helped the U.S. Girls U17 National Team rip through its first three opponents at the 2026 FIVB Girls U17 World Championship in Santiago, Chile, with the Americans posting three consecutive 3-0 sweeps to open the tournament.

Middleton, a 6-foot-1 student at St. Francis High School who wears No. 15, earned her roster spot when USA Volleyball announced the 14-player squad on June 12. This marks the first time the United States has competed in the U17 World Championship, which is only the second edition of the tournament.

She made her presence felt immediately. In Friday, Aug. 7's opener against Egypt, Middleton tallied five kills and combined with setter Ellie Enger on a double block that sealed the second set in a 25-13, 25-23, 25-17 victory.

On Saturday, Aug. 8, against Türkiye, Middleton posted four points on two kills and two blocks as the U.S. cruised 25-12, 25-18, 25-16. Her tip pushed the American lead to 6-1 in the second set, and she ended two long rallies with kills to stretch it to 9-3. The match finished with back-to-back blocks by Ogbogu and Middleton. The U.S. dominated statistically: 37-26 in kills, 11-4 in blocks and 8-3 in aces, hitting at a .351 clip.

Marietta's Kari Knotts, a 6-3 opposite from The Lovett School who led the Türkiye match with 11 kills and 13 points, summed up the team's mentality after that win: "I give Team Türkiye credit for putting pressure on us from the start and allowing us to play good USA volleyball. We stuck together as a team during challenges, and I am excited to be Team USA through the rest of this tournament."

The Saturday, Aug. 8 match against host Chile brought the toughest atmosphere. In the first set, a Middleton block pushed the U.S. to a 6-3 lead. Then in the second set she took over behind the service line, rattling off three consecutive points, including an ace, to build another 6-3 cushion. The Americans won 25-14, 25-20, 25-19, outpacing Chile 47-23 in kills and serving seven of eight team aces.

Through three matches, Middleton has contributed kills, blocks and a key serving run while anchoring the middle of a U.S. squad that has yet to drop a set.

Team USA faces Thailand on Monday, Aug. 10, and Czechia on Tuesday, Aug. 11, both at 11 a.m. PT, to close pool play. The Round of 24 and Round of 16 follow on Wednesday, Aug. 12, with quarterfinals Friday, Aug. 14, semifinals Saturday, Aug. 15, and medal matches Sunday, Aug. 16.
