More than $30 million in Small Business Administration-backed loans landed in Roswell over the past year, the SBA's top official in the Southeast disclosed on a local podcast published Friday, Aug. 7.

Tyler Teresa, the agency's Southeastern Regional Administrator, shared the figure on Episode 102 of Roswell Brew Talks, the weekly podcast produced in connection with Roswell Inc., the city's chamber of commerce. Teresa oversees SBA operations across eight states, including Georgia, and was appointed to the role in May.

The $30 million-plus in federally guaranteed capital reached local businesses through SBA lending programs. The agency's flagship 7(a) loan backs up to $5 million per borrower for working capital, equipment, real estate and acquisitions. It also offers 504 loans of up to $5.5 million for fixed assets and microloans of up to $50,000 aimed at startups.

Teresa grew up in Sarasota, Florida, where his parents ran a small family-owned business. Before leading the Southeast region, he served as the SBA's White House liaison and presidential transition advisor, according to his agency biography. He is based in Greenville, South Carolina.

On the podcast, Teresa outlined mentorship and counseling resources available at no cost to Roswell entrepreneurs, including SCORE, Small Business Development Centers and Women's Business Centers. The SBA's resource partner network connects business owners with advisors on financing, planning and hiring.
